The Most Memorable Farewell Party I Ever had

Yesterday afternoon I was sitting at a coffee shop in the downtown area, when to my utmost astonishment my best friend Emily from high school gave me a surprise visit. Seeing her after 5 years was the best thing that happened that day.

I asked here that what she had being doing all these years. And her reply was travelling the world with the World Health Organization as a trainee nurse. I was very happy for her because she always wanted to help other people. Even in high school she joined the first aider association and very soon became the head girl of the association.

Upon asking about my whereabouts I told her that I was interested in commercial film making and working as an assistant to a commercial film expert. She reminded me that it was my father that inspired me to join the commercial film company.

We remembered all those exciting and lovely days that we spent in high school. How we used to tease the boys, Emily used to demonstrate her first aiding skills and I with my camera to capture the whole process.

Emily remembered that how we used laugh on small and silly things and still we did as we laughed on trivial things. She also recollected the last few days in high school and that the teachers and the principal made us both the heads to organize our own farewell party.

At that time we felt very silly to organize our own farewell party but now as I think back it was the most Memorable Farewell Party I ever had. The teacher gave had a meeting with us a couple of months before the Farewell Party. As they knew they could only trust us because we were serious when it came to the work of the school.

Now we knew that the whole Farewell Party was on our shoulders. So we needed to set some things before starting off. We needed to first build a team in order to divide the different tasks at hand. We asked the help of the 8th and 9th graders who said that they would be honored to work with us, as both Emily and me were popular for our smooth organization of parties.

After the team was formed we had many tasks at hand. But by assigning roles to each group of three that we decided to make, it became easy for us to manage the whole thing. Each group had different task to do and we instructed them to have a writing pad and pen/ pencil all the time in case any new idea is to be added.

First of all the theme of the Farewell Party was to be decided. Emily and I always wanted to do something unique and different; this was the reason that our teachers gave us this task. We thought of having a Masquerade Ball as the theme. The staff and the management readily approved it.
For a Masquerade Ball the location was very important as these balls were grand and were held in the large space. The best location that we came up with was the great hall of the sports complex. It was huge and had plenty of space for other things to organize.

Each group of the team was assigned different roles to do and every group had to show us what they were doing for the approval. As the time and date was finalized by the school committee and staff, it was time to design and print the invitation cards for the guests, staff and the graduate students and large invitation banners for the students were put up all over the school. Also make entry tickets for the students.

The invitation cards and banners not only had date, day, venue and time but also the theme dress. Gowns should be worn either in vintage style or modern, hairdos and fancy makeup. The fancy makeup was optional.

We were very careful in selecting the team members as they were best in different fields. Students with great art work were given the task of making party decorations. This included the stage on which the farewell speeches will be made, different wall hangings like masks, fans paper flowers and different photo frames to make the photographs more memorable.

Our teachers and other committee member were worrying about the budget. We suggested them to have a small amount to be charged with entry ticket by each student. This entry fee will be according to the expenses of the whole farewell party. The staff and committee member were satisfied and sanctioned the idea.

A group of three students in the team were given the role of organizing the food and beverages. They roamed around the city but couldn’t find any reasonable pace to order the food and drinks. One of the students came to us and said that his mother wanted to help and make sandwiches for the party. We were very glad that the parents were also taking interest in our farewell party.
As we were discussing on how to manage it, a group of 7th graders came and told us that they would like to contribute in the party by organizing different drinks for the party. They wanted to make lemonade, different shakes, smoothies and other instant drinks.

Impressed by our efforts the staff decided to join the quest for organizing food. The staff divided into 4 groups and each group committed to bring something at the Farewell Party. As we remembered they brought; mini burgers, mini pizzas, fried potatoes onions and sweet potatoes, mini cupcakes, spring rolls and pasta dish.

What farewell gifts we should give to the graduate students, this question baffled our mind for quite some time. But just as a bolt of enlightenment the answer came to us. The corsages and the Masquerade Ball masks will be the perfect gift to remember the day. The corsages were brought by our principal as a farewell gift for us. We thanked a lot for his generosity.

The next obstacle was from where to buy these masks. When I was browsing through the internet to buy my themed dress I saw many masks at reasonable price on Sears. I already had a Sears Credit Card, so I decided not only to buy the dress form Sears but also the masks on discounted price.
Deciding for the guest of honor was the hardest thing to do as there was lots of alumina to consider.

We discussed this matter with our class and we came to the conclusion that we could invite one of the oldest members of the staff alive. This idea was immediately approved by the school organization. And our class took the special invitation card personally to him and requested his presence at the Farewell Party.

Last thing to do was to ask a few members of our class to prepare Farewell Speeches. Emily and I suggested the class not to give a formal speech, just share the experiences and future deals. Even they could prepare a small drama for other students and staff members.

As the day of the Farewell Party drew nearer, we felt nervous if all things could be prepared on time. But our frustration calmed down as everything finished on time and that memorable day came.
We had all the things prepared before hand and just we needed to arrange all the things in place. Our team effortlessly started to arrange everything and help came as we were doing the arrangement form the junior school side. The all came and helped us in small things like; table arrangement of food and drinks, seating arrangement, putting up the decoration stuff and help with sign boards to guide the guests through.

We all were tired but the happiness of seeing the effort of two month long period bloom was a refresher for us. My parents had arranged a surprise lunch at the school for me, Emily and our team. We enjoyed a lot and felt refreshed for the Farewell Party that night.

As the party started everyone was amazed to see the beautiful arrangements made by our team. Everybody enjoyed a lot; we danced and partied all night.

The best time was when the speeches were made. Many of our class mates made really funny speeches and the small drama we prepared was remarkable. But the most important thing happened when our guest of honor shared his experiences with us. I still didn’t forget the things he said to follow the dreams even if anyone says you can’t.

Discussing the whole Farewell Party was a blast and we lost track of time. Emily had to go to the airport to catch a flight and I had to present a pilot of a documentary drama to my boss. Although we both got at our places late but remembering that Memorable Farewell Party was worth being late. But we committed to each other to once again go to our high school and arrange a Farewell Party together.
